Is TODAY the DAY?
Sometimes it’s just a random thought that pops into your head.
Or, it could be an epiphany as you take a hard look at yourself in the mirror.
For a lot of people, it became top-of-mind right after they recovered from Covid 19.
I’m talking about that moment when you realize it’s time to do something about your weight and health.
First Thoughts…
For many, the first thought is to go on a “diet.”
But, as quickly as that enters their minds the haunting ghosts of a hundred past diets returns… along with all the frustration that it didn’t work.
So, in sneaks that other thought: Why bother?
After all… that damned weight will come back just as it always has in the past.
And, before they know it, they’re back in front of the mirror even more discouraged than before.
So What’s the Answer?
The first step is to forget about DIETS altogether!
The second step is to create a “mind image” of how you think you’ll appear once you meet your goal.
In other words, create a new self-image!
How to Create a New Self-Image!
Creating a new self-image requires a few things.
First and foremost, determine exactly what it is you wish to accomplish?
For example, if it’s weight loss, exactly how much weight?
What size will you be when your goal is achieved?
Can you picture what you’ll look like?
When you achieve your goal, how might you feel?
So, take the time to clearly visualize exactly what you really want to accomplish.
This will become your “vision mission.”
Make Your Vision a Priority
Having a vision mission is a great first step.
Now, you need to make it a priority.
If you don’t, it will get commingled among your other daily activities and eventually just fade away.
Start Small and Ramp Up
Making it a priority doesn’t mean you need to start BIG.
In fact, just the opposite.
Start small and embrace simple, small changes that will add up to big improvements in your lifestyle.
Ramping up slowly will allow you to stick with it and to build upon your success.
Change Agent #1 – FOOD
Yes, let’s face it. Most people simply are NOT healthy eaters. In fact, some consistently make downright terrible food choices.
And, then, there are those who simply eat excessively – snacking all day.
The secret to this amazing change agent is to make some permanent changes to your eating habits.
And, again, start small with some simple choices. For example:
✅ Choose salad over chips or fries
✅ Eat fresh produce with every meal
✅ Limit desserts to healthy fruit
✅ Eliminate mindless snacking
✅ Drink water, not soda
Listen, even world class athletes don’t eat a perfect menu plan every day of the week. It’s very difficult.
However, consider this. If you make more healthy choices than unhealthy ones every day, you’ll be well on the way to your “vision” and permanent change.
Change Agent #2 – MOVEMENT
Physical activity is a huge component to a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, most people don’t get enough of it.
How often does an entire week go by without a person lacing up their sneakers?
How often do people walk or run over 10,000 steps? That’s the number that often indicates whether or not someone is sitting more than moving.
So many people disregard the importance and power of a good workout. That’s a huge mistake when attempting to reach their health related goals.
Your “vision mission” may require exercising on most days of the week. But, once it becomes a habit, it becomes easy.
Here are simple ways to move more:
✅ Watch less TV
✅ Stretch and foam roll stiff muscles every day
✅ Opt for stairs over an elevator or escalator
✅ Go for a daily walk or a short hike
Reaching your self-image… and feeling your best is the balance of all the choices you make regarding your body.
You can absolutely swing balance in your favor by thinking about your choices and staying “health conscious.”
If you’re ready to get started, let’s talk.
